DIDDY ON TRIAL: Ventura cross-examination Day 1 recap
DIDDY ON TRIAL: Ventura cross-examination Day 1 recapABC News Legal Analyst Channa Lloyd breaks down day 1 of the cross-examination of Cassie Ventura.

NEW YORK -- The R&B singer Cassie will return to the witness stand on Friday after spending hours under cross-examination following two days of testimony recounting tumultuous details of life with her ex-boyfriend, Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Cassie read aloud her explicit messages with Combs on Thursday.

In some of the messages, she expresses enthusiasm for the sex encounters with other men orchestrated by Combs that she disparaged in previous testimony. Cassie testified on Wednesday that Combs raped her in 2018 and coerced her into participating in the so-called "freak-off" sex encounters with male escorts that made her feel ashamed.

Prosecutors allege Combs, 55, used his fame and fortune to orchestrate an empire of exploitation, coercing women into abusive sex parties.

If Combs is convicted on all charges, which include racketeering, kidnapping, arson, bribery and sex trafficking, he would face a mandatory 15 years in prison and could remain behind bars for life.

'He would put his hands on me.' Cassie details other instances of violence during 'freak offs'

There were times, other than the caught-on-camera episode in the InterContinental, when Cassie Ventura said she was injured at a "freak off."

"He would put his hands on me," Ventura said. "He would grab me up, push me down, hit me on the side of the head, kick me."

Prosecutor Emily Johnson asked, "How frequently did Sean put his hands on you during 'freak offs?'" Ventura responded "Too frequently. A lot."

Ventura recalled a time in August 2013 when she was packing for a music festival in Canada when Combs entered her apartment "and it just was commotion, him yelling at us, about me being passed out on the couch, about me being asleep."

She said Combs threw her onto the bed, catching the side of her face on the corner.

"I had a pretty significant gash on the side of my eyebrow," Ventura recalled.

The jury saw a photo. "That's my eyebrow after I was thrown."

She texted the image to Combs with a message "So you can remember."

Ventura was left with a permanent scar on her eyebrow. "I cover it with makeup."

She recalled an argument with Combs on the yacht where the two were staying during the Cannes Film Festival. On the plane ride home, she said Combs showed her videos of "freak offs."

"I just felt trapped. Like how do you get out of this situation?" Ventura said. "He would put these videos out. He would ruin me, embarrass me. Just make me out to be someone that I'm not."

She described how the "humiliating, derogatory" videos gave Combs "leverage" over her.

Upon landing in New York, she and Combs went to a dinner and then he wanted to have a "freak off."

"So we had a 'freak off,'" Ventura said. "Whatever was not going to make him angry at me and threatening me I was willing to do. I just didn't want to feel scared."

'Opioids make me feel numb, which is why I relied on them so heavily'

Cassie said she would try to recover from "freak offs" by taking IV fluids, getting massages and having a chef cook meals.

She said she developed an opioid addiction from using them after "freak offs" as a coping mechanism. "Opioids make me feel numb, which is why I relied on them so heavily."

She said she developed urinary tract infections frequently from the sexual experiences. After "freak offs," she said, she felt emotionally "just really empty and I felt just gross."

She said she also "felt like I did my job."

Combs turned 'freak offs' into blackmail, Cassie testifies

For a second time on the witness stand Cassie Ventura flipped through a binder containing photographs of escorts that she said were hired for "freak offs."

In a matter-of-fact tone she recalled their names: Ash, Brian, Dave, Greg and someone she knew as "Islander."

She had sex with all of them, some in multiple cities, and she told the jury it's possible she and Combs had some of them flown to different places, testimony that federal prosecutors no doubt hope helps prove one of the charges Combs faces, transportation for the purposes of prostitution.

Ventura hired them herself. "It was expected of me," she said.

Ventura also told the jury Combs turned "freak offs" into "blackmail," threatening to release video recordings "when he was upset about something."

She testified that Combs threatened "to embarrass me and put my career in jeopardy." She said she "absolutely" feared he would release the videos.

"I just feared for my career. I feared for my family. It's just embarrassing and disgusting. Nobody should do that to anyone," Ventura said, quoting Combs as telling her the videos "could ruin everything " that she worked for and make her look "like a slut."

The jury saw a text message from Ventura asking Combs to "please delete any video" from his phone. Combs responded that he had but she testified that there were times when she had seen videos she thought had been deleted.

Jurors shown photos of Cassie's swollen lip as she testified about hotel attack from Combs

Ventura testified Wednesday that she took the selfies on her Uber ride away from the Los Angeles hotel. She said she wore sunglasses because she had a black eye.

Once home, she said a friend of hers saw her injuries and was "super upset" because she'd "seen me with black eyes and busted lips before."

Cassie said her friend called police, but she declined to reveal who had injured her once police arrived so they left.

"In that moment, I didn't want to hurt him that way," she testified. "I wasn't ready."

She said he claimed police were about to arrest him. And when she refused to accept his phone calls, Combs told her that if she didn't pick up the phone, she'd "never hear my voice again," Cassie said.

Jurors were then shown pictures of Cassie and Combs at a movie premier soon after the March 2016 hotel attack. Cassie described bruises on her body that were visible in the photographs and said she was unable to cover up all the damage with makeup. She wore dark sunglasses to cover her black eye.
