ANZA, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman and two horses were killed in a crash in Riverside County overnight.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday along Highway 371 near Contreras Road in Anza, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A group of horseback riders were on the shoulder at the time. For some reason, two of the riders wandered into the roadway and were hit by a car.
One of the horseback riders, described as a woman in her late 30s, was killed. The other rider was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Both horses were also killed.
The driver who hit them was not injured and remained at the scene.
