Pod of about 100 dolphins dazzle OC boat passengers

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A breathtaking encounter just off the Newport Beach coast was caught on camera.

A pod of about 100 bottlenose dolphins dazzled passengers aboard a Newport Coastal Adventure's whale-watching vessel earlier this week.

The dolphins began riding the boat's wake, with some of them launching themselves as high as 10 feet into the air. Marine biologists say this is rare behavior for bottlenose dolphins, but it demonstrates their playful nature and strong social bond.
