Man with knife lunges at Cathedral City police officer in shocking attack caught on video

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (KABC) -- Newly-released video shows a violent confrontation between a police officer and a man with a knife in Cathedral City.

The incident unfolded July 27 as the officer responded to a call about a verbal altercation between family members.

As the officer approached the front door of a home, a man rushed at him with a knife and repeatedly stabbed at him. Footage shows an older man and woman come out of the home to try and stop the suspect.

The officer was only slightly injured, and was able to get control of the knife and subdue the man.

Juan Francisco Sosa Jr. was arrested and booked for attempted murder.
