LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A grand theft auto suspect was taken into custody Thursday afternoon after leading authorities on a chase through Los Angeles.

AIR7 began following the chase shortly after noon.

According to authorities, the white Ford Expedition driven by the suspect was reportedly stolen in Bakersfield.

At one point, the suspect was on the southbound 5 Freeway, heading toward downtown L.A., reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

Shortly before 1 p.m., when the suspect was on the 10 Freeway near the Fairfax area, officers successfully deployed a spike strip that suspect drove over, deflating the two front tires.

Soon after, the suspect came to a complete stop in the Cheviot Hills area where he was taken into custody.

There were reports that the suspect may have been armed with a gun, but it's unclear if a gun was found.
