James Alvarez said he and his girlfriend, who's expecting, got into a car accident Friday on the 14 Freeway in the Sylmar area.
SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An Orange County man who lost his pregnant wife in 2020 when she was fatally struck by a drunk driver had a terrifying scare involving his current pregnant girlfriend.
James Alvarez said he and his girlfriend Sabrina got into a car accident Friday night on the 14 Freeway in the Sylmar area while they were driving home from dinner.
Alvarez said they were in separate vehicles when someone suddenly rear-ended his girlfriend's car, causing it to crash into his. Sabrina was rushed to the hospital, and fortunately, both the child and mother were not injured.
Friday's crash was quite traumatic for Alvarez.
In August 2020, Alvarez's wife at the time - Yesenia Lisette Aguilar - was fatally struck by a drunk driver while she was walking with him. A white SUV jumped a curb and hit her, narrowly missing Alvarez.
Aguilar was 35 weeks pregnant at the time of the collision. The couple's daughter, Adalyn Rose, was born by emergency C-section.
"Literally, I was stuck in the same situation of seeing, you know, my girlfriend being taken away, and I couldn't be with her, and not knowing if the baby's okay," said Alvarez about Friday's crash.
Thankfully, Alvarez's girlfriend and their baby are both doing well.
The father said he's blessed to have found love and become a father again, adding that little Adalyn can't wait to be a big sister.
Meantime, Friday's crash remains under investigation.
